„It is now nine years since Ilham Tohti was sentenced in China for nothing
other than his commitment to the Uyghur people. A commitment without
violence. Someone who as a scientist, as an intellectual who draws
attention to the terrible suffering the Uyghur people are experiencing in
China. Ilham Tohti reminds us daily through his imprisonment as a
political prisoner that we must stand up against the most terrible
oppression against concentration camp-like conditions in XinJang. Ilham
Tohti has received the Vaclav Havel Prize, among others, of the Council of
Europe, already in 2019 and it is important that we always remember his
fate, so that he is not forgotten and so that the suffering of the Uyghur
people is not forgotten and therefore I am very grateful to you (Ilham Tohti
Initiative e.V.) that you make this event. I would have liked to be there
personally. Unfortunately, this is not possible but at every opportunity I try
tostand up for the Uyghur people but also for the personal fate of Ilham
Tohti to whom I certainly wish all the best and we are committed every day
for his freedom“.

Frank Schwabe (Beauftragter der Deutsche Bundesregierung für Religions
– und Weltanschauungsfreiheirt) anlässlich des 9. Jahrestrag Ilham Tohtis
Verurteilung:

„Es ist jetzt neun Jahre her, dass Ilham Tohti verurteilt wurde in China
wegen nichts anderem als seinem Einsatz für das uigurische Volk. Ein
Einsatz ohne Gewalt. Jemand der als Wissenschaftler unterwegs ist, als
Intellektueller der darauf Aufmerksam macht welches schreckliche Leid
Uiguren in China wiederfährt. Ilham Tohti erinnert uns täglich durch seine
Gefangenschaft als politischer Gefangener, dass wir uns einsetzen müssen
gegen schrecklichste Unterdrückung gegen Konzentrazionslager-ähnliche
Zustände in XinJang. Ilham Tohti hat den Vaclav-Havel-Preis unter
anderem bekommen, des Europarats, bereits schon 2019 und es ist
wichtig, dass wir immer wieder an sein Schicksal erinnern, damit er nicht
in Vergessenheit gerät und damit das Leid des uigurischen Volkes nicht in
Vergessenheit gerät und deswegen bin ich Ihnen (Ilham Tohti Initiative
e.V.) sehr dankbar, dass sie diese Veranstaltung machen. Wäre gerne auch
persönlich dabei gewesen. Das geht aber leider nicht aber an jeder
Gelegenheit versuche ich mich zu verwenden für das uigurische Volk aber
eben auch für das persönliche Schicksal von Ilham Tohti dem ich dem wir
sicherlich alles alles gute wünschen und uns jeden Tag für seine Freiheit
einsetzen“.
